BOSTON — In a distressing moment for the Boston Red Sox, first baseman Triston Casas had to be taken off the field on a stretcher due to a suspected lower-body injury. The incident occurred on Friday night during a match against the Minnesota Twins. The 25-year-old player suffered the injury in the bottom of the second inning after taking a tumble near first base in an awkward manner.

The play leading to Casas’s mishap unfolded when he hit a slow roller along the first-base line, causing disorder on the field. Twins’ pitcher Joe Ryan attempted to field the ball but bobbled it, leading to a hurried, underhand throw to Twins’ first baseman Ty France. Though the play resulted in Casas being ruled safe, the young first baseman was visibly in discomfort, prompting immediate concern. Ryan was subsequently charged with an error for the play.

Casas, who has the distinction of starting the past three opening day games at first base for the Red Sox, had to be substituted by Romy Gonzalez following the incident. Prior to Friday’s game, Casas had a batting average of .184, contributing three home runs over the course of 28 games this season.

The Red Sox and their fans will undoubtedly be anxiously awaiting further news on Casas’s condition as they continue their season.
