In Inglewood, California, two female employees at a technical college became victims of a shooting on the campus on Friday, which officials have categorized as an incident of workplace violence.

The incident unfolded around 4 p.m. within an office of the Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology. The Mayor of Inglewood, James Butts, indicated that the perpetrator is thought to be a former employee of the institution.

Televised reports showed a large police presence encircling the campus in Inglewood, a city located just southwest of Los Angeles.

Among the victims, one remains in a critical condition, according to statements by Mayor Butts. The Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed through their social media account that the two injured individuals have been transported to a medical facility.

A suspect was apprehended following an initial departure from the scene, as Mayor Butts explained.

Authorities from the Los Angeles Police Department reported that officers succeeded in detaining a male suspect who had been located in a vehicle corresponding to the description of a car connected to the shooting. The alert had been circulated to law enforcement by the Inglewood Police Department. However, further details from Inglewood police were not immediately available.

In response to the shooting, the campus was placed on lockdown for at least an hour.

Chris Becker, who serves as the president and chief administrator of the campus, stated in an interview that campus safety through regular patrols is an integral part of operations, given its focus on aviation training.

“It’s a peaceful campus,” Becker remarked. “It’s a nice community of students and teachers and staff.”

Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology operates several campuses nationwide. The Inglewood facility, situated approximately a mile from the Los Angeles International Airport, caters to around 500 students and provides specialized training programs in aviation maintenance technology.
