BOSTON — The Boston Red Sox have announced that right-handed pitcher Walker Buehler has been placed on the 15-day injured list due to right shoulder bursitis. This decision came on Friday, just a day after Buehler returned from Toronto to Boston to undergo medical examinations.

Originally slated to take the mound on Friday when the Red Sox started their three-game series against the Minnesota Twins at Fenway Park, Buehler’s condition required immediate attention. The tests were necessary as Buehler struggled to recover after his previous outing last Saturday. In that game, the 30-year-old allowed three runs and seven hits over six innings, contributing to a victory over Cleveland. This marked his third consecutive successful start.

Since joining the Red Sox this offseason with a one-year, $21.05 million contract, Buehler has posted a 4-1 record, maintaining a 4.28 ERA over six starts. Prior to his stint in Boston, he spent the first seven years of his MLB career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, where he was part of two World Series-winning teams.

In light of Buehler’s absence, the Red Sox have added right-handed pitcher Hunter Dobbins to their roster. Dobbins makes the leap from Triple-A Worcester to fill the gap left by Buehler.

Additionally, the Red Sox took action on Friday by reinstating catcher Connor Wong, who was placed on the 10-day injured list on April 8 after fracturing his left pinky. Wong was included in the lineup for Friday’s game, positioned as the seventh hitter. To accommodate Wong’s return, Blake Sabol was optioned back to Worcester.
