ANAHEIM, Calif. — Mike Trout, the prominent figure of the Los Angeles Angels, will once again be placed on the 10-day injured list, this time due to a bone bruise in his recently surgically treated left knee. The announcement was made by Angels manager Ron Washington after the team’s 10-4 defeat to the Detroit Tigers. The Angels have confirmed there is no structural damage to Trout’s knee.

“We’re putting him on the IL because of the bone bruise,” Washington shared with MLB.com. “It’s nothing major, but he needs time to recover.”

Trout, who has had a history of injuries, missed his first game of the current season on Thursday night. This follows his exit from Wednesday’s game against Seattle, where he experienced discomfort in his left knee. The injury occurred during a sprint to first base when his left foot made contact with the bag while attempting to beat out a groundout in the third inning.

This season, Trout has been batting .179 with nine home runs and 18 RBIs. Last year, he had two surgeries for separate meniscus tears in the same knee, restricting him to just 29 games. The 11-time All-Star did not appear in the majors after April 29 of the previous year.

Over the past four seasons, the 33-year-old has surpassed 82 games in a season only once, primarily due to ongoing injury issues.
