BRYCE CANYON CITY, Utah — A tragic incident occurred at Bryce Canyon National Park in southern Utah, where two individuals lost their lives after a fall of 380 feet (116 meters) from a viewing area.
On Tuesday, tourists discovered the bodies beneath Inspiration Point, indicating that the fall happened late Monday or early Tuesday, as reported by the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.
The circumstances surrounding the fall remain unclear, but it was noted that the individuals had crossed the safety railings.
Efforts to recover the bodies involved park rangers, search and rescue teams, along with a helicopter crew. The victims were identified on Wednesday as Matthew Nannen, aged 45, and Bailee Crane, aged 58.
The pair had been residing in a U-Haul van and had recently spent a considerable amount of time in Arizona, with Florida listed as their last permanent home state.
Bryce Canyon is renowned for its vibrant array of spires, cliffs, and ravines formed through erosion of soft rock and soil along a plateau’s edge. Annually, the park attracts over 2 million visitors seeking its unique natural beauty.
