TEHRAN, Iran — On Wednesday, Iranian officials announced plans to hold the next series of discussions regarding their growing nuclear program with the United States this coming Saturday in Rome.
Responding to queries following a Cabinet meeting, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, revealed Iran’s intent to meet on Friday with representatives from France, Germany, and the United Kingdom to deliberate on the progression of the negotiations.
The United States and Iran will be engaging in discussions facilitated once more by Oman. The Sultanate has previously been involved, hosting two rounds of discussions in its capital, Muscat, and another at its diplomatic post in Rome.
The primary focus of these talks is to create an agreement that would curtail Iran’s nuclear ambitions in return for the alleviation of some economic sanctions that have severely impacted Iran. These sanctions have been a monumental part of the prolonged hostilities between the U.S. and Iran, which have stretched on for nearly fifty years.
Currently, U.S. President Donald Trump has consistently made firm warnings, suggesting potential military action targeting Iran’s nuclear facilities should no accord be reached. Concurrently, Iranian authorities have been vocal about the possibility of advancing towards a nuclear arsenal, with significant quantities of uranium that have been refined to levels close to those needed for armament.
