WASHINGTON — The New York Mets have placed relief pitcher A.J. Minter on the 15-day injured list after the left-hander sustained a left lat strain during a game against the Washington Nationals. This development occurred shortly after Minter exited a match that resulted in a 2-0 victory for the Mets.
During the eighth inning, while pitching against James Wood, Minter showed signs of discomfort following a 3-1 pitch. He briefly walked to the back of the mound, prompting Mets manager Carlos Mendoza and the team’s medical staff to check on him. After a brief assessment, Minter left the field, assisted by an athletic trainer.
“He mentioned some tricep discomfort initially,” commented Mendoza the following morning. “Post-game evaluations by our trainers indicated it might be more of a lat issue. We’re still waiting to determine the exact severity of the injury.”
To further assess the injury, Minter underwent an MRI on Sunday. In response to this roster change, the team has called up right-hander José Ureña from Triple-A Syracuse. Ureña is set to be available for bullpen duties immediately.
This season, the 31-year-old Minter has been off to a strong start with no wins or losses, maintaining an ERA of 1.64 and securing seven holds. He has efficiently managed 14 strikeouts and five walks over 11 innings. Meanwhile, Minter remains hopeful about a swift recovery. “At least it’s not my elbow,” he expressed on Saturday. “I’m likely facing some time on the injured list, but the plan is to recuperate and rejoin the team as soon as possible.”
In another update, the Mets announced infielder Ronny Mauricio has begun his minor league injury rehabilitation process. Mauricio, who suffered a torn right ACL in December, has commenced his assignment with the Class A St. Lucie team.
