In Herzogenaurach, Germany, Kenyan runner Agnes Ngetich achieved a groundbreaking feat by becoming the first female athlete to complete a women-only 10-kilometer road race in under 30 minutes. She achieved this historic milestone with a breathtaking time of 29 minutes and 27 seconds at the Adizero Road To Records event.
This remarkable performance shattered the previous record of 30:01 set by Agnes Jebet Tirop in 2021 during the same event held in Germany. Ngetich’s extraordinary accomplishment underscores her prowess, as she also holds the absolute record of 28:46, accomplished last year in a race that included both male and female competitors.
Reflecting on her triumph, Ngetich expressed her determination and resilience: “Last year, I missed the record by just two seconds, so I was determined to take another shot at it today,” she stated. “After not qualifying for the Olympics last year, I am eager to make up for it at this year’s world championships.” With this record-breaking performance, Ngetich has solidified her position as one of the top contenders in long-distance running.
