BANGKOK — A tragic incident involving a small police plane occurred when it crashed into the sea near a well-known beach resort area in Thailand, resulting in the deaths of all six occupants, officials announced on Friday. The ill-fated aircraft was in the midst of a test flight in preparation for parachute training in the Hua Hin district before it unexpectedly went down around 8 a.m., according to Royal Thai Police spokesperson Archayon Kraithong.

Although specifics about the plane’s model were not immediately disclosed, images from the crash site suggest that the aircraft might have been a Viking DHC-6 Twin Otter. The unfortunate crash took place in the vicinity of Hua Hin Airport, as confirmed by the public relations department of Prachuab Kiri Khan province. Photos captured from the scene depict the plane situated in the sea, approximately 100 meters (or about 330 feet) from the shoreline. The images reveal that the body of the plane was split in two.

All individuals aboard were members of the police force, Archayon reported. Tragically, five of them were pronounced dead at the scene, while the sixth individual, identified as the pilot, succumbed to his injuries later at the hospital. The exact reason behind the crash remains unknown at this point. Archayon mentioned that authorities are in the process of collecting evidence, which includes analyzing data retrieved from the plane’s black box.
