TORONTO— An incident involving a police officer took place outside Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, effectively halting traffic directed towards Terminal 1, officials announced on Thursday.

According to a social media update from Peel Regional Police, an adult individual was shot, although the officer involved remained unharmed. The incident occurred just outside the terminal.

In a subsequent statement, Peel Regional Police assured that the situation was contained, emphasizing that there are no existing threats to public safety.

The Peel paramedics reported receiving a call to respond to the airport at 6:56 a.m. However, no transports to the hospital were made, and officials declined to confirm if any fatalities had occurred as a result of the incident.

The Ontario Provincial Police have closed roads stretching from Highway 409 to Terminal 1 in light of the event.

A video shared on social media platforms earlier on Thursday depicted a significant police presence located outside the airport premises.

Additionally, vehicles reportedly experienced a build-up along the road leading to the terminal, indicating a notable traffic disruption.
