OMAHA, Neb. — Omaha women’s basketball team will be undergoing changes in leadership as head coach Carrie Banks has been relieved of her duties. This announcement was made on Tuesday by Adrian Dowell, the athletic director.

Under Banks’ guidance, the Mavericks unfortunately endured five consecutive losing seasons. The previous season concluded with a 14-17 overall record, and the team found themselves tied for seventh place in the nine-team Summit League with a 5-11 standing in conference play. During her tenure, none of Banks’ units finished higher than a tie for fifth place in the league.

Having been previously involved as an assistant coach for Ohio State, Carrie Banks was brought on board by Omaha in 2020. Her time with the Mavericks resulted in an overall record of 51-89.

Adrian Dowell addressed the decision by saying, “Today I informed Carrie Banks, along with our student-athletes and coaching staff in the women’s basketball program, regarding my decision to pursue a change in leadership for the head coaching role. After thoroughly evaluating the program, I am assured that with new leadership, we can aspire to attain a heightened level of competitive success.”

The Mavericks are now in search of fresh guidance to help uplift the program in the coming seasons. Despite the challenges faced, the athletic department remains hopeful about the future prospects of Omaha’s women’s basketball.
