SAN FRANCISCO — The San Francisco Giants’ infielder, Casey Schmitt, has suffered a Grade 2 strain of his left oblique muscle, which is anticipated to sideline him for a minimum of one month.

An MRI conducted on Monday confirmed the extent of the injury. Following this, Schmitt was slated to meet with Dr. Ken Akizuki, the team’s orthopedic specialist, for further evaluation. The mishap occurred in a batting cage over the weekend while the Giants were playing a series on the road against the Los Angeles Angels. Consequently, this incident placed him on the 10-day injured list. Schmitt’s condition is expected to be reassessed towards the end of the current homestand this weekend.

At 26 years old, Schmitt has participated in nine games, predominantly playing at first base since he transitioned to this position earlier in the year. So far, he has maintained a batting average of .174, alongside two RBIs.
