NEW YORK — A 30-year-old individual was taken into custody by police inside Trump Tower on Monday following a report of a person behaving disruptively on an “elevated surface” within the iconic building, authorities have stated.
Responding at approximately 4:30 p.m., New York City police officers arrived at the skyscraper, known for housing the penthouse of former President Donald Trump.
In addition, Trump Tower is home to private residences, culinary establishments, retail outlets, and an expansive public atrium that frequently draws tourists.
Videos shared by independent journalists showed security personnel directing people to evacuate the atrium, while officers emerged from the building. These officers were equipped with helmets and safety harnesses, typically used by emergency teams specializing in high-altitude rescues.
The city’s emergency service unit efficiently detained the individual without any further issues, according to police statements. As of now, it is not immediately evident what charges might be filed against the person, and investigations into the incident continue, law enforcement added.
Over the years, Trump Tower has been a backdrop for various episodes, including protests, bomb threats, and audacious stunts. Notably, in 2016, an individual attempted to climb the building and managed to reach the 21st floor before being safely apprehended by officers.
