President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump are gearing up to host the first White House Easter Egg Roll of Trump’s second term, with an anticipated attendance of 40,000 visitors. The event, which might face damp conditions due to forecasted scattered showers on Monday, is one of the hallmark festivities at the White House.

Prior to joining in on the celebrations, the President and First Lady plan to address the attendees from a White House balcony. Central to the event is the egg rolling tradition, where children will use spoons to push brightly colored, hard-boiled eggs across the lawn to reach a finish line. In addition to the egg roll, a variety of activities such as an egg hunt and games are organized, many of which aim to spark interest in the upcoming 250th anniversary of America’s founding, slated for July 4, 2026.

Families will have opportunities to engage with history by signing a replica of the Declaration of Independence or donning costumes as America’s Founding Fathers. The event spans the entire day and includes multiple activity stations, live performances, and story times that cater to the young attendees.

Among those scheduled to entertain the children with storytelling sessions are First Lady Melania Trump, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, and Keith Kellogg, the President’s Special Envoy for Ukraine.

Emily Metz, President and CEO of the American Egg Board, explained that her organization has been a key participant in the Easter Egg Roll for nearly half a century and a major sponsor for the past ten years. This year, they donated 30,000 hand-dyed eggs prepared by board employees and volunteers, which reached the White House in time for the festivities.

Metz addressed the current egg shortage exacerbated by the spread of avian flu and the resulting price increase, clarifying that the 2,500 dozen eggs provided were smaller sizes not usually stocked by retailers. Thus, this gift should not impact overall egg supply or pricing. Nearly nine million dozen eggs are sold daily in the U.S., emphasizing the board’s message of celebrating where possible, particularly for an event that inherently involves eggs.

Since its inception in 1878 under President Rutherford B. Hayes, the Easter Egg Roll has been a cherished White House tradition. Hayes initiated the event after children were prohibited from rolling eggs on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol by Congress, offering the expansive White House lawn as an alternative.

Tickets for this year’s gathering were allocated via a lottery system, ensuring fair distribution amongst eager participants.
