ONTARIO, Calif. — In a whirlwind year, Katy Perry has accomplished quite a lot, from releasing her latest album to political campaigning and even making a venture into space. As the pop icon gears up to launch her global tour in Mexico City on Wednesday, she shows no signs of taking a breather.

“I embrace any opportunity with a ‘why not?’ attitude,” she noted recently during a chat at her rehearsal space in Southern California. “The power of your thoughts can’t be underestimated because everything starts with a thought. I had the intention to go on tour, and now it’s happening.”

Her readiness to explore new territories does come with its challenges. Perry’s album “143,” which debuted in September, faced harsh critiques, and she also drew criticism for re-teaming with the controversial producer, Dr. Luke. Not only that, but her support for Kamala Harris led to disappointment when Harris lost the November election. Moreover, her space journey was criticized by public figures like Olivia Munn and Emily Ratajkowski, who viewed the endeavor as excessive.

Still, since her breakthrough with “I Kissed a Girl” in 2008, Perry’s career has thrived partly due to her resilience—a theme prominent in her 2013 hit “Roar.” “I focus on what’s within my control,” she affirmed.

This philosophy has matured over the years, largely influenced by her practice of Transcendental Meditation—a method popular among several celebrities. Perry credits filmmaker David Lynch’s advocacy as influential in her discovery of the practice.

“It transformed my life,” she confessed. “I’ve embarked on an inner journey to untangle my thoughts and become more grounded, unlocking the power within.”

Perry is intrigued by spiritual concepts, often discussing astrology, the enneagram, and cardology. Having her daughter, Daisy, has also fueled her journey toward self-discovery, enriching what she calls her “feminine divine.”

“Motherhood enhances your power,” she stated. “I’ve blossomed into the strong woman I envisioned and admired.”

This personal growth influences her music and performances, embodied by the sci-fi theme of her “Lifetimes Tour.” Drawing on movies like “Blade Runner” and “The Fifth Element,” Perry portrays a video game character battling dark forces.

“The core message is self-belief and love, consistent themes in all my work,” she said. “Leading by example can create a wave of change.”

Her tour, featuring over 80 performances, will be a celebration of her classic hits with a fresh, dance-oriented twist. “I advise everyone to wear comfortable shoes,” she suggested.

Throughout her nearly 20-year journey in pop music, Perry has made witty lyrics and messages of empowerment her trademarks. Although reception to her recent albums has been lukewarm, she remains undeterred, dubbing the upcoming tour as “Disneyland on wheels.”

“I feel a commitment to connect with my fans who have stayed with me on this journey,” she added, aiming to evoke the same magic they first felt when “Teenage Dream” hit the airwaves.
