PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic — Garrick Higgo clinched his second victory on the PGA Tour by capitalizing on Joel Dahmen’s stumble in the final holes at the Corales Puntacana Championship.
Dahmen’s struggles culminated in missed short putts on the last two holes, allowing Higgo to glide to the top after Dahmen faltered. On the par-3 17th, Dahmen missed a 1-foot par putt, marking back-to-back bogeys, and then failed to save par with an 8-foot attempt on the par-4 18th.
Higgo, who was playing just ahead of Dahmen, also faced challenges at the 17th with a bogey but managed to maintain composure and parred the 18th, completing the round with an even-par 72 and total score of 14-under 274. Dahmen, who had led throughout the event after dominating the initial three rounds, ended with a discouraging 76.
The victory marks Higgo’s second on the PGA Tour, with the South African left-hander, previously triumphant at the 2021 Palmetto Championship at Congaree. The win secures him a two-year tour exemption, although it does not extend an invitation to the Masters.
Dahmen shared second place alongside Alejandro Tosti, who finished with a 68, Keith Mitchell with a 71, Jeremy Paul with a 72, and Michael Thorbjornsen, rounding out his game with a 73. Thorbjornsen narrowly missed a crucial 4-foot par putt on the final hole.
Meanwhile, Ben Polland, who is preparing to defend his title at the upcoming PGA Professional Championship, tied for 53rd with a final score of 1 under after carding a 74.
