BALTIMORE — Noelvi Marte showcased a spectacular performance with seven runs batted in, clinching his first-ever grand slam during the Cincinnati Reds’ stunning 24-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. The grand slam came from a powerful shot off infielder Jorge Mateo. Austin Wynn added to the Reds’ impressive display by driving in six RBIs, marking a personal career-high. This explosive game, resulting in the Reds’ highest run score in 26 years, harkens back to a memorable 24-12 victory against Colorado on May 19, 1999. The Reds concluded the game with a remarkable 25 hits.

The Orioles, conversely, faced a challenging day in the field, giving up their most runs since their notorious 30-3 loss to Texas on August 22, 2007. Together, Marte and Wynn, batting from the eighth and ninth positions, delivered a historic 11-hit performance—the highest from the final batting order spots since 1901—while amassing 13 RBIs. This achievement ties for the second-most since RBIs were officially recorded in 1920.

Austin Hays performed admirably for Baltimore, going 4-for-6 and finishing the series against his old team with eight hits in 14 at-bats, driving in five runs. Meanwhile, Elly De La Cruz sparked a massive seven-run third inning with a homer off Charlie Morton. Morton struggled, allowing seven runs on seven hits and four walks over just 2 1/3 innings, marking his shortest stint since September 2023.

Reds’ Taylor Rogers contributed by pitching the fifth inning during a bullpen collaboration, while Randy Wynne secured his first career save over three innings. Late in the game, Adley Rutschman managed a home run for Baltimore.

In a key moment, De La Cruz, displaying exceptional fielding skills, made a remarkable leaping catch to rob Jackson Holliday of what could have been an RBI single early in the game. Notably, this game eclipsed Wynn’s previous best of four RBIs achieved with San Francisco against Atlanta on June 21, 2022.

Looking ahead, the Reds’ southpaw Nick Lodolo is slated to pitch on Monday as their nine-game road trip continues in Miami, facing off against right-hander Max Meyer. Meanwhile, the Orioles have Dean Kremer set to start on Tuesday as they open a six-game journey in Washington against the Nationals, who will counter with left-hander Mitchell Parker.
