PHILADELPHIA — Outfielder Griffin Conine of the Miami Marlins has been placed on the 60-day injured list following a shoulder dislocation that occurred in a tight game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. The injury happened during a dramatic moment in the sixth inning as Conine dove headfirst into second base while securing an RBI double, marking his seventh of the season, the highest on the team. Following the dive, he held his left arm in pain and had to leave the field accompanied by a trainer.

At 27, Conine has become an important figure in the Marlins’ offensive lineup, boasting a leading slugging percentage of .438 and an OPS of .790 over 71 plate appearances. His defensive skills are also impressive, making him unique in the league as the only player to achieve multiple five-star catches this season according to MLB’s Statcast data.

The Marlins are currently dealing with a stretched outfield, with center fielder Derek Hill also recently placed on the injured list due to a left wrist sprain. In response, the team has made roster adjustments by calling up infielder Ronny Simon and pitcher Cade Gibson from Triple-A Jacksonville, while pitcher Patrick Monteverde has been designated for assignment.

Javier Sanoja was tapped to fill Conine’s position in the outfield during Sunday’s game. As for Conine, further medical evaluations are set for Monday to assess the severity of his injury and to decide if surgical intervention is required.
