Michigan Edges Stanford for NCAA Gymnastics Crown

    ANN ARBOR, Mich. — In a remarkable display of skill and dedication, Michigan’s Fred Richard and Paul Juda emerged victorious in the all-around competition, propelling the Wolverines to their first NCAA men’s gymnastics title since 2014. The team scored a total of 332.224, narrowly surpassing the five-time defending champions, Stanford, who finished with a score of 332.961.
    Juda’s performance was instrumental in Michigan’s victory. As the last gymnast to compete for the host team, he secured an individual championship in the parallel bars with a stellar score of 14.200. His contribution didn’t end there; Juda’s 13.966 score on the vault was crucial in sealing the Wolverines’ seventh national title in the program’s history. At the 2024 championships, Michigan had fallen short, finishing second, trailing Stanford by 5.635 points.
    Taking the third spot on the podium was Oklahoma, with a total score of 327.891. Nebraska followed closely in fourth place at 326.222, while Penn State accumulated 317.258 to finish fifth. Illinois rounded out the top six with a score of 316.293. Renowned for their storied history, Penn State and Oklahoma each hold an impressive record of 12 national titles.
    The competition also saw individual brilliance shine through, including Stanford’s Asher Hong, who claimed the floor exercise title with a formidable score of 14.600 and successfully defended his rings title with a score of 14.433. Air Force’s Patrick Hoopes excelled on the pommel horse, earning a commendable score of 14.833. Meanwhile, Ohio State’s Kameron Nelson triumphed in the vault with a score of 14.633. Oklahoma’s Emre Dodanli showcased his prowess on the high bar, securing victory with a score of 13.833.
    Both Richard and Juda have recently made headlines for their athletic talents, each earning bronze medals for Team USA at the Paris Olympics. Their continuous excellence and dedication to gymnastics have not only elevated Michigan to national glory but have also solidified their stature on the international stage.
