Four individuals face charges in connection to a shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of three people and left three others injured in Virginia, according to authorities.
The Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office announced on Wednesday that the suspects include two 16-year-olds, a 17-year-old, and an 18-year-old. They are each charged with malicious wounding and felony firearm use. On Wednesday morning, three suspects were detained, while the fourth, who is currently hospitalized due to a gunshot wound, will be taken into custody once discharged.
Earlier, police assured that there was no ongoing threat to public safety. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when 911 received numerous calls about a shooting at a townhouse complex located in Spotsylvania County, just outside Fredericksburg and around 65 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. Maj. Elizabeth Scott, speaking for the sheriff’s office, provided these details.
Upon arrival, authorities found all the victims outdoors. Three men were pronounced dead; they have been identified as 18-year-old Chase Feaster, 18-year-old Alonzo Goffney, and another man aged 20, whose identity has not yet been disclosed by officials.
The other three individuals, who sustained gunshot injuries, were transported to hospitals. However, their conditions and further details were not immediately made available. The authorities suspect that multiple perpetrators may have been involved in the shooting, yet no motive has been publicized.
Authorities have reached out to any witnesses in possession of relevant video footage that may assist in the ongoing investigation. Meanwhile, people have been advised to steer clear of the area, and residents close to the scene were instructed to remain inside as investigations continued. In response to the incident, local schools imposed a two-hour delay on Wednesday morning.
Fredericksburg City Public Schools informed on their website about the delay, considering “the profound impact this incident has had on members of our school community.” The delay is offered to provide essential time for preparing the buildings and staff to receive students with the care and support they might require during this trying time.
Similarly, Spotsylvania County Public Schools announced a two-hour delay to ensure staff are equipped to extend support to those impacted. Measures include additional deputies and sheriff’s office presence at every high school, as detailed on their website.
