DENVER — In an impressive offensive display, Brice Turang, Christian Yelich, and William Contreras launched home runs in the seventh inning, while Jackson Churio contributed with a double and a triple, leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 7-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday night.
Freddy Peralta (1-1) delivered five effective innings for Milwaukee, striking out six batters, capitalizing on the team’s recent momentum that includes six wins in seven games, following an early season slump of four consecutive losses.
The Brewers surged ahead with a commanding four-run rally in the third inning against Colorado’s Kyle Freeland (0-2), featuring a streak of three RBI singles. Colorado’s Brenton Doyle responded with a solo home run in the bottom of the third, but the Rockies, now 2-8 for the season, struggled to reduce the deficit, managing a sparse 1-3 record at their home field.
Turang initiated a seventh-inning offensive explosion with a solo home run that ended Freeland’s night. After Churio was retired with a ground out, Yelich and Contreras immediately followed with consecutive home runs, establishing a comfortable six-run advantage for Milwaukee.
This decisive triumph overshadowed the major league debut of Rockies outfielder Zac Veen. Coming from Triple-A Albuquerque, Veen found himself batting seventh and took position in right field. His first two plate appearances yielded a flyout and a strikeout, but he managed a bunt single in the sixth inning for his first major league hit before popping out in his final at-bat in the ninth.
In a critical moment, after surrendering a solo homer to Doyle, Peralta issued walks to the next two Rockies batters, placing pressure on the Brewers’ lead. However, Peralta adeptly struck out Kris Bryant and induced a routine ground ball from Kyle Farmer, maintaining Milwaukee’s 4-1 lead.
It was a challenging evening for Colorado’s starting pitcher Kyle Freeland, who began the game with an impressive 2.16 ERA that aligned with the league’s elite. However, after yielding five runs over 6 1/3 innings, his ERA jumped to 3.79, reflecting a difficult outing against a potent Brewers lineup.
Looking forward, the teams are set to clash again on Wednesday. Milwaukee plans to send left-hander Tyler Alexander (1-0, 2.00 ERA) to the pitcher’s mound, while the Rockies will counter with Antonio Senzatela (0-1, 0.00 ERA), aiming to rebound from their current struggles.
