KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Minnesota Twins faced a setback during their game against the Kansas City Royals when their star pitcher, Pablo López, exited in the bottom of the fifth inning due to an apparent injury to his right leg.
López seemed to experience discomfort after issuing a walk to Jonathan India. The situation prompted Twins’ manager Rocco Baldelli and trainer Nick Paparesta to swiftly approach the mound, whereupon they decided to pull López from the game following a brief conversation.
During his time on the mound, López managed to deliver 78 pitches over 4 2/3 innings. He gave up an unearned run on three hits, walked one batter, and struck out six.
In response to López’s early departure, the Twins brought in Cole Sands to take over pitching duties in relief.
