PHOENIX — Baltimore Orioles pitcher Zach Eflin reported feeling well upon waking up, which comes as a positive development after he exited Monday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks experiencing shoulder fatigue.

The Orioles are still waiting for the results from an MRI that was administered on Tuesday. Manager Brandon Hyde shared optimism about Eflin’s condition, stating, “The fact that he woke up without significant soreness is very encouraging and we’re hopeful about his recovery.” Hyde added that they are remaining cautiously optimistic as they await further information.

During the game, Eflin allowed only one run over six innings, giving up four hits. However, his pitch velocity started to decline by the sixth inning. Concerned, Eflin mentioned the issue to Manager Hyde, who decided to take a precautionary measure and replace him for the remainder of the game. Despite the setback, the Orioles emerged victoriously, defeating the Diamondbacks 5-1.

Eflin delivered 73 pitches during his outing and currently holds a record of 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA over three starts this season. The team is already dealing with the setback of losing relief pitcher Albert Suárez, who will be sidelined for a couple of months following his placement on the 60-day injured list due to a shoulder injury.

Last season, Eflin proved valuable after being acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays at the trade deadline, managing a 5-2 record and a 2.60 ERA across nine starts for the Orioles.
