MONACO — Novak Djokovic is set to face an opponent who previously handed him an unexpected defeat. The 24-time Grand Slam winner will compete against Alejandro Tabilo, currently ranked 32nd, in his first match at the Monte Carlo Masters.

Tabilo advanced on Monday by overcoming 2014 champion Stan Wawrinka with a score of 1-6, 7-5, 7-5, setting up the second-round rematch against Djokovic. Notably, Tabilo managed to secure a win against Djokovic at the Italian Open last year, where Djokovic was able to win only five games.

This upcoming match marks Djokovic’s return to the court following his recent loss in the Miami Open final to Jakub Mensik. The Monte Carlo Masters represents the first major clay-court tournament of the current season.

In other developments from the round of 64 on Monday, Jiri Lehecka triumphed over Sebastian Korda with a scoreline of 6-3, 7-6 (7), while Marcos Giron defeated Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 7-6 (5).
