ATLANTA — Sunday’s game between the Miami Marlins and the Atlanta Braves was postponed due to inclement weather. The encounter has been rescheduled as a day-night doubleheader on August 9, turning it into a five-game series.

Originally, Miami was set to face Atlanta in a four-game series from August 7-10. The newly added doubleheader will kick off with one game at 1:15 p.m. and another at 7:15 p.m. The decision came as Atlanta’s grounds team placed a tarp on the infield two hours prior to the anticipated start time, with light rain following shortly thereafter and heavier rainfall expected throughout the afternoon.

The series initially saw a tie, with Atlanta claiming victory in their home opener on Friday night, overpowering the Marlins 10-0. The win featured back-to-back home runs by Marcell Ozuna and Matt Olson. In contrast, Matt Mervis’s two home runs helped Miami secure a 4-0 triumph on Saturday night. Sunday’s pitching matchup had been set to feature Braves’ right-hander Grant Holmes against Marlins’ ace Sandy Alcantara.

In the wake of the postponement, the Braves announced the return of catcher Sean Murphy, who has recovered from cracked ribs and is back on the roster. As a result, Chadwick Tromp was designated for assignment, ensuring that rookie Drake Baldwin remains at the major league level to rotate with Murphy.

    Looking ahead:

Marlins: With Sandy Alcantara reportedly shifting to the paternity list, Miami plans to utilize a spot starter for Monday night’s game against the New York Mets. The Mets are expected to start with right-hander Kodai Senga, who currently holds a 0-1 record with a 3.60 ERA.

Braves: Following a day off, the Braves prepare for a three-game series opener on Tuesday against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies. The pitching duel will feature Braves’ left-hander Chris Sale, with a 0-1 record and a 5.40 ERA, going up against Phillies’ right-hander Zack Wheeler, who boasts a 1-0 record with an impressive 1.39 ERA.
