BOSTON — The anticipated face-off between the Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals had to be postponed on Saturday due to persistent rain.
The field remained cloaked under a tarp for the entire period, and the game never commenced. After enduring a delay lasting 2 hours and 8 minutes, the game was officially postponed as the forecast indicated continuous rain throughout the evening.
The rescheduled game is now set to take place as part of a split doubleheader the following Sunday afternoon, with the first pitch planned for 1:30 p.m.
The two teams are already slated to meet again that night, with a game scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
In their home opener on Friday, the Red Sox secured a 13-9 victory in the series opener and paid tribute to members of their 1975 American League championship team.
Earlier in the week, the Red Sox introduced their rookie star, Kristian Campbell, during a press conference, announcing his significant 8-year, $60 million contract. This conference took place four hours before the scheduled start of the postponed game.
