LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska’s football program has announced the departure of Wide Receiver Hardley Gilmore IV from the team. Coach Matt Rhule confirmed this development on Saturday, noting that Gilmore, a transfer from Kentucky in January, will no longer be part of the team’s lineup.
Gilmore, a second-year athlete originally from Belle Glade, Florida, had joined Nebraska alongside his former Kentucky teammate Dane Key and receivers coach Daikiel Shorts Jr. His efforts in spring practice had received commendations from both teammates and coaching staff.
While the specific reasons for Gilmore’s removal from the team were not disclosed, coach Rhule clarified that the decision was not related to any off-the-field or criminal activities. “Nothing outside the program, nothing criminal or anything like that,” Rhule mentioned. “He just won’t be with us anymore,” he added.
Previously, Gilmore faced legal issues when he was charged with misdemeanor assault in December. He allegedly punched an individual at a storage facility in Lexington, Kentucky, as reported earlier this year.
During his freshman year with the Kentucky Wildcats, Gilmore participated in seven games, achieving six receptions that totaled 153 yards. He notably started in a game against Murray State, where he caught a 52-yard touchdown on Kentucky’s first possession. As a recruit, Gilmore was highly ranked, being a consensus four-star recruit who initially made the decision to join Kentucky over offers from other notable programs, including Penn State and UCF.
