Medicine Hat Tigers forward Gavin McKenna is solidifying his status as the premier prospect for the 2026 NHL draft by extending his impressive point streak to 45 consecutive games. This matches the second-longest streak in the Canadian Hockey League since the turn of the century.

The 17-year-old phenom clinched two assists during Game 5 of the Tigers’ Western Hockey League first-round playoff against the Swift Current Broncos, resulting in a narrow 3-2 victory. Medicine Hat Tigers, who secured the top seed in the Eastern Conference, are still awaiting the announcement of their opponent for the second round of the playoffs.

McKenna’s remarkable 45-game point streak, inclusive of playoff games, ties with the streak once set by former NHL player Brad Richards during the 1999-2000 season with Rimouski. He is now just five games shy of reaching Alexander Radulov’s 50-game streak, achieved with Quebec during the 2005-06 season.

Hailing from Whitehorse, Yukon, McKenna was already distinguished as a generational talent when the Medicine Hat Tigers selected him with the first overall pick in the 2022 bantam draft. His performance as CHL’s rookie of the year last season set high expectations.

This season, McKenna has continued to excel, racking up 129 points—including 41 goals and 88 assists—across 56 games, positioning him second in the WHL scoring chart. Of note, he only missed out on scoring points in three games this season, with the last being on November 6.

Currently leading the WHL playoff points ranking, McKenna has already amassed 16 points through two goals and 14 assists. His overall career statistics speak volumes, as he has collected 79 goals and 165 assists, culminating in 244 points over 133 regular-season WHL games.
