CLEVELAND — The New York Knicks received promising news as star guard Jalen Brunson has been given the green light to resume basketball activities. Coach Tom Thibodeau announced this update prior to Wednesday night’s matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers, suggesting Brunson could potentially rejoin the team in the final week of the regular season.
According to Thibodeau, Brunson is set to participate in practice sessions during the Knicks’ current road trip. New York will be traveling to Atlanta on Saturday, then hosting games against Phoenix on Sunday and Boston on Tuesday.
Brunson suffered a sprained right ankle on March 6 during an overtime play against the Los Angeles Lakers. The injury occurred when he accidentally landed on the foot of Lakers guard Austin Reaves following a foul while driving to the basket.
Despite being without Brunson, the Knicks have managed to secure an 8-5 record and currently hold the third spot in the Eastern Conference. Brunson, who has been an invaluable player for the Knicks, is ranked seventh in the league with an average of 26.3 points per game and eighth with 7.4 assists per game.
