Wissam Ben Yedder, a former player for the French national soccer team, is attempting to reignite his professional path by signing with Sepahan FC, one of Iran’s top clubs, after nearly a year away from the sport. The forward, known for his exceptional goal-scoring abilities, has joined the team without the disclosure of specific contract terms.
Based out of Isfahan, Sepahan FC eagerly awaits the completion of Ben Yedder’s international transfer certificate after he successfully underwent medical evaluations. The move marks a new chapter for the athlete, who has been navigating legal challenges over the past year.
Previously, Ben Yedder was involved in a legal battle after being charged with sexual assault while under the influence of alcohol. Following a court ruling in Nice, he received a suspended prison sentence and was obligated to undertake a treatment program. The incident, which occurred on the French Riviera, led to his temporary detention and subsequent release.
The 34-year-old striker’s soccer journey includes a notable tenure with Monaco, where he netted 16 goals alongside three assists in the previous French league season, aiding the team to achieve a strong finish behind Paris Saint-Germain. Over five seasons, Ben Yedder became Monaco’s second-highest scorer in history, accumulating 118 goals in 201 matches, just trailing the legendary Delio Onnis.
While his last appearance for the French national squad was in June 2022, Ben Yedder also faces another ongoing legal issue with preliminary charges relating to allegations of rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault in southern France. Besides these charges, he encountered legal trouble in Spain, receiving a six-month suspended sentence for tax evasion in 2023.
Ben Yedder’s career has also seen him excel at Toulouse before moving to Spain’s Sevilla from 2016 to 2019. His signing with Sepahan FC is viewed as a significant step as he looks to revive his playing career amidst an array of challenges, both personal and professional.
