CHARLOTTE, N.C. โ In a hard-fought contest, the Charlotte Hornets managed to end their five-game losing streak with a 110-106 victory over the Utah Jazz on Monday night. Leading the charge for the Hornets, Miles Bridges delivered an impressive performance with 26 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists. His efforts were complemented by Mark Williams, who contributed 18 points along with 13 rebounds, helping the Hornets hold the Jazz to 41% shooting.
Despite the Jazzโs attempts to recover, Keyonte George and Brice Sensabaugh were the main contributors for Utah, scoring 20 and 19 points respectively, with Sensabaugh netting five 3-pointers. The Hornets (19-56) established a 14-point lead during the first half, succeeding with 11 out of 22 attempts from beyond the arc. Nevertheless, the Jazz managed to regroup and tied the game towards the end of the third quarter with a 3-pointer from George. Although Utah equalized the score several times, they failed to seize the lead.
Currently holding the leagueโs worst record, the Jazz (16-60) have now lost six consecutive games. A notable struggle came from former Duke forward Kyle Filipowski, who was off to a difficult start in his return to North Carolina. Missing his first eight shots, including four from three-point range, Filipowski eventually found his rhythm in the second half, finishing with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
On the Hornetsโ side, Bridges managed to shake off his recent shooting slump from beyond the arc, making 3 out of 6 attempts, a marked improvement from his previous 3 out of 30 attempts in the last four games. As the game drew to a close, a pivotal moment came when Filipowski missed a 3-point attempt that would have tied the game, followed by Georgeโs missed putback. Josh Green then sealed the win for Charlotte by sinking two critical free throws with 18.3 seconds remaining.
The Hornets tallied an impressive 33 assists across their 43 successful field goals, highlighting their effective team play in securing the win. Looking ahead, both teams are scheduled for away games on Wednesday nightโ the Jazz will face the Rockets, while the Hornets will take on the Pacers.
