ROME — Authorities in Italy are probing a blaze that ravaged more than a dozen Tesla vehicles at a showroom situated on the outskirts of Rome, with arson being considered as a potential cause. The incident took place in the early hours of Monday, prompting a thorough investigation.

Tesla Italy confirmed its full collaboration with law enforcement officials in the investigation process and revealed that it has provided the authorities with surveillance footage from the cars themselves. Notably, this internal video system remains active even when the vehicles are powered off, potentially providing significant insights.

At the scene, it was apparent that 16 cars were completely gutted by the fire. The blaze’s impact is hardly instigating isolated concerns within the Tesla community as the company has faced protests globally. These have centered around Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, and his perceived ties to the Trump administration.

Additionally, the situation is compounded by a decline in the European market for Tesla, where sales fell by 49% in the first couple of months this year. This downturn occurred despite an overall increase in electric vehicle sales across the continent, signaling a concerning trend for the automaker.
