NEW YORK – A tragic accident in Brooklyn has led to the death of a mother and her two children after being struck by a car while they were out for a walk. Described by New York City Mayor Eric Adams as an accident of “Shakespearean proportion,” the incident has resulted in multiple charges against the driver involved.

Miriam Yarimi faces charges that include criminally negligent homicide, manslaughter, and second-degree assault, following the incident which occurred on Saturday afternoon. According to authorities, Yarimi was driving on a suspended license and is accused of speeding through a red light, crashing into another vehicle before fatally hitting the family in a crosswalk.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch addressed the media at the scene of the accident, condemning the actions that led to such a “horrific tragedy.” She expressed outrage over the loss, stating, “A mother and two young children were killed. Another child fights for his life and an entire community grieves.”

No contact information could be located for Yarimi, and efforts to reach the Kings County courts for details about her legal representation were unsuccessful. According to reports, Yarimi’s Audi rear-ended a Toyota, resulting in minor injuries to both drivers and two more adults, along with three children in the other car. She had to be freed from her over-turned vehicle following the collision.

The impact of the crash propelled Yarimi’s car into the pedestrians on the crosswalk. A 35-year-old woman and her two daughters, aged 6 and 8, died on the spot, while a 4-year-old boy remains in critical condition at the hospital.

Mayor Adams expressed the profound impact of the tragedy, noting, “This is extremely concerning and painful—not just for New York City, but for the community directly affected. A simple walk on a sunny day ended in catastrophe.” As prayers rise for the families affected by this unspeakable loss, New Yorkers unite in mourning.
