WASHINGTON — In the recent game against the Washington Nationals, the Philadelphia Phillies had to adjust their lineup, missing key players J.T. Realmuto and Trea Turner. Despite their absence, Phillies manager Rob Thomson expressed optimism about their potential return for the team’s upcoming game against the Colorado Rockies on Monday.
Realmuto, the team’s catcher, sustained a bruised foot during Saturday’s game after fouling a ball off himself. Meanwhile, Turner, who plays shortstop, was sidelined due to a back spasm that surfaced before Saturday’s matchup. Both injuries seem to be more precautionary, with Thomson hopeful about their quick recovery.
“J.T. is still experiencing some soreness, but it’s mainly precautionary,” noted Thomson. “We’ll keep him active during today’s game. If needed, he could play in an emergency behind (Rafael) Marchán. Similarly with Trea, we’re aiming to have them ready by tomorrow.” Turner commenced treatment on Sunday morning, following his report of back tightness after Thursday’s season opener, which worsened during pre-game exercises on Saturday.
