SAN FRANCISCO — Texas Tech’s standout perimeter shooter, Chance McMillian, made his return to the court during the Red Raiders’ Elite Eight matchup against the University of Florida. McMillian had been sidelined for the last four games due to an oblique injury.
Entering the game at the 15:22 mark in the first half, McMillian’s initial shot was blocked by opposing player Will Richard. He quickly recovered, however, sinking a short jumper with his subsequent attempt.
Prior to the game on Saturday, McMillian participated in warmups, and Texas Tech listed him as a reserve option. Originally from San Francisco and having attended high school in nearby Vallejo, McMillian was eager to perform in front of local supporters, family, and friends.
Leading the Red Raiders in three-pointers this season with 69 successful shots, McMillian boasts an impressive 43.4% shooting accuracy from beyond the arc. He is currently Texas Tech’s third-highest scorer, averaging 14.2 points per game.
Although Coach Grant McCasland anticipated McMillian’s participation in the Sweet 16 clash with Arkansas, the senior guard decided against playing after not feeling fully recovered despite joining a prior team shootaround.
Meanwhile, the Florida Gators saw Alex Condon start the game following his own recent absence due to a sprained right ankle. Condon had already returned in the second half of Florida’s previous victory over Maryland.
Standing at 6-foot-11, Condon leads the Gators in rebounding with an average of 7.7 boards per game and contributes as their fourth-leading scorer at 10.9 points per game. He was previously out for two weeks in February owing to the ankle injury.
