NEW YORK — In a tragic incident on Saturday, a car crash in Brooklyn resulted in the deaths of a woman and two of her children while crossing the street. A third child involved in the crash was critically injured.

The accident involved a 32-year-old woman, who was driving an Audi with a suspended license. The vehicle collided with the family as they attempted to cross the street. Police are probing whether the driver ran a red light or if speeding contributed to the crash. Additionally, preliminary breathalyzer tests are being conducted to check for alcohol intoxication.

“I will call it like it is. This was a horrific tragedy caused by someone who shouldn’t have been on the road,” stated Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch during a press briefing. “A mother and two young children killed. Another child fighting for his life. A family and a neighborhood devastated.”

The Audi initially rear-ended a Toyota vehicle around 1 p.m., according to Tisch. Both drivers sustained minor injuries, along with another adult and three children who were inside the Toyota. Emergency responders had to extract the Audi driver from the vehicle crash site.

The force of the collision pushed the Audi into a group of pedestrians in the crosswalk, leading the vehicle to overturn. Tragically, the 35-year-old woman and her 6- and 8-year-old daughters were pronounced dead at the scene. Meanwhile, a 4-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital and is in critical condition.

Mayor Eric Adams, addressing reporters at the scene, described the incident as a “terrible, terrible accident” and expressed his concerns over the devastating event.
