TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Bay Rays have placed outfielder Josh Lowe on the 10-day injured list due to a strained right oblique muscle.
To fill Lowe’s position on the roster, the Rays have called up outfielder Jake Mangum from Triple-A Durham as of Saturday.
Lowe sustained the injury during Tampa Bay’s season opener on Friday, mirroring a similar setback he faced last year, which caused him to miss 46 games.
The incident occurred when Lowe grounded out in his first at-bat and felt discomfort after fouling off a pitch during a plate appearance in the fifth inning. Despite hitting a single on the following pitch, he appeared to be in pain, wincing as he left the batter’s box and carefully ran to first base.
In the previous season, the 27-year-old Lowe recorded a batting average of .241, alongside 10 home runs, 34 RBIs, and 25 stolen bases spread across 106 games. Earlier this year, he battled hip inflammation during spring training and didn’t make his season debut until May 6. Once again, he was sidelined between May 22 and June 5 due to the oblique strain.
The Tampa Bay Rays are hopeful for Lowe’s swift recovery and look forward to his return to enhance their lineup as the season progresses.
