In Bowling Green, Kentucky, a brazen theft involved eight Corvettes disappearing from the very site known for crafting these iconic vehicles—the GM Bowling Green Assembly plant, famed as the longstanding birthplace of Chevrolet’s muscle marvel since the early 1980s. This theft amounted to an astonishing $1.2 million in the value of the cars, highlighting the scale of the incident.
The investigation revealed the thieves had reached the cars by cutting a fence at the facility. One suspect, apprehended later, admitted that a successful retreat to Michigan would have ensured substantial payment for the stolen Corvettes, as detailed in a police report.
A pivotal moment in the investigation unfolded when a resident of a Bowling Green apartment complex noticed something unusual—a brand-new Corvette adorned with sale stickers had been discreetly parked. This prompted her to alert the authorities, who, upon further inquiry with the plant manager, confirmed that a total of eight Corvettes were indeed missing from the inventory.
Subsequent police efforts led to the discovery of four more of the missing Corvettes scattered across various locations. The lead on the final vehicles emerged when a transporter driver, summoned to retrieve an older model Corvette, instead encountered three 2025 Corvettes. Observing abnormalities, including damage beneath the vehicles and the urgency exuded by the handlers, the driver found the scenario suspicious and opted to inform the police.
Upon arrival, law enforcement engaged in a pursuit that resulted in detaining a 21-year-old man, subsequently charging him with offenses ranging from participating in organized crime to possession of stolen property and resisting arrest. Meanwhile, an accomplice managed to evade capture, fleeing in a Jeep sporting Ohio license plates.
