PARIS — This weekend, players and referees in France’s top-tier football leagues, Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, will sport special badges on their jersey sleeves, carrying a powerful anti-racism message.
The unique emblem features the terms “Racism” and “Football,” with “racism” prominently struck through with a bold red line, marking a stand against intolerance.

Vincent Labrune, the president of the French league (LFP), emphasized the collective commitment to combating discrimination, stating on Thursday, “Racism and antisemitism have no place on the pitch or in society. Together, we are standing up for a fair, respectful and united football.”
A giant tarpaulin, brandishing the same message, will cover the center circle at matches. This message will also be featured on advertising boards around the fields and on large screens in each stadium, reinforcing the campaign throughout the events.

Additionally, the jerseys worn during these matches will be put up for auction. All of the funds raised from the auction will support three organizations that are dedicated to fighting discrimination in collaboration with the LFP.
France’s Sports Minister, Marie Barsacq, is set to attend Sunday’s match between northern rivals Lille and Lens, highlighting the significance of this initiative.
