The Charlotte Hornets have embarked on an exciting new chapter with the groundbreaking of their state-of-the-art training and performance center in downtown Charlotte. This ambitious project, aptly named the Novant Health Performance Center, promises to span 160,000 square feet and come with a price tag exceeding $150 million. Nestled strategically across from the Spectrum Center, the Hornets’ home venue, this facility is poised to transform how the team prepares, practices, and manages its operations.

Slated for completion in time for the 2026-27 NBA season, the performance center is meticulously designed to integrate all elements of player development and wellness. It offers two full-sized basketball courts and comprehensive areas dedicated to strength and conditioning. Additionally, players will benefit from advanced training and recovery resources, detailed medical facilities, and spaces focusing on physical therapy, hydrotherapy, nutrition, and sports science. Moreover, the new complex will host the Hornets’ business operations and administrative offices, accommodating over 250 staff members who support the team’s daily operations.

Rick Schnall, co-owner of the Hornets, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This promises to be the premier practice facility in the NBA. With what we offer, not only will our current players thrive and want to remain, but we expect it will also be a significant draw for top free agents, aiding in their growth into future stars.”

The event ceremony had a notable presence, with past Hornets legends like Muggsy Bogues and Kemba Walker, the franchise’s leading scorer. Current stars like LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller also marked their attendance, celebrating the groundbreaking moment. Bogues emphasized the importance of such facilities, noting their role in enhancing player performance and attraction.

Having faced an eight-season playoff drought, the Hornets, under the renewed leadership of co-owners Schnall and Gabe Plotkin, aim to rejuvenate their team strategy. They’re hopeful that with the introduction of this top-tier training ensemble, they’ll be magnetizing high-profile free agents, thus reinvigorating their competitive edge.

Coach Charles Lee commented, “When you’re recognized for doing things correctly within the league, it creates a buzz. It draws players who want to be part of a forward-thinking and success-driven organization.”
