WASHINGTON — The Washington Nationals have placed their left-handed pitcher, DJ Herz, on the 15-day injured list due to a sprained ligament in his pitching elbow. This announcement came on Tuesday, marking a notable change in the team’s roster plans.

Last Friday, Herz was sent down to Triple-A Rochester as part of the team’s final roster adjustments made during camp. Throughout spring training, he made four appearances, three of which were starts, but unfortunately struggled with a record of 0-2 and a 6.52 ERA.

Herz, who is 24 years old, embarked on his major league journey last June. In the 2024 season, he recorded a 4-9 win-loss record, achieved a 4.16 ERA, and struck out 108 batters over the course of 88 2/3 innings in 19 appearances.

As the Nationals prepare for their opening game against the Philadelphia Phillies this Thursday, they will need to finalize their roster, taking into account Herz’s unexpected absence.
