In Austin, Texas, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy is embroiled in a legal battle with his former girlfriend, Tia Jones. Worthy has filed a lawsuit against Jones, claiming she assaulted him and caused significant damage, leading to losses exceeding $150,000 in cash and property. The civil action was initiated in Williamson County, the same locale where Worthy once shone as a college football player at the University of Texas.

Earlier in the month, Worthy found himself in legal trouble after Jones accused him of assault. However, the district attorney opted not to press charges following corroboration from multiple witnesses. Worthy’s lawsuit contends that Jones concocted false abuse claims driven by animosity after he requested her to vacate their shared home. In a spiraling conflict, Worthy alleges Jones physically attacked him by pulling his hair and wreaked havoc on his game room.

Further accusations surface as Worthy claims that Jones exploited his time in jail to pilfer a handgun, $30,000 in cash, jewelry, and a key to his Rolls Royce among other valuables. Responding to these serious allegations, Jones’ attorney, Angelica Cogliano, stated Monday that she had yet to review the lawsuit and thus offered no immediate comments.

Worthy’s lawsuit seeks damages ranging from $250,000 to $1 million. His legal submission articulates the toll on his physical health, property, and reputation, asserting enduring damages to his credibility and future NFL career despite the accusations being unfounded.

In the realm of professional football, Worthy was a notable selection for the Chiefs, picked 28th overall in the previous year’s draft. His blazing speed set a 40-yard dash record at the NFL combine, leading to an electrifying start with the Chiefs, highlighted by two touchdowns in his debut. Though he faced a midseason slump, Worthy swiftly returned to form as a key player in Kansas City’s pursuit of a historic third straight Super Bowl appearance.

The season concluded with Worthy’s commendable stats: 59 catches tallying 638 yards and six touchdowns, alongside 20 runs that amassed 104 yards and three additional scores. Even in a challenging 40-22 Super Bowl defeat to Philadelphia, Worthy’s performance stood out with eight out of eight targets caught, accumulating 157 yards and two touchdowns in New Orleans’ Superdome.
