The Detroit Tigers have bolstered their outfield by signing Manuel Margot to a one-year contract worth $1.3 million.
The announcement came on Monday, reflecting the team’s move to enhance their lineup ahead of the upcoming season. Margot’s agreement includes a salary of $1.3 million when at the major league level, and $200,000 should he be in the minors. Additionally, Margot could earn up to $1.2 million more through performance-based incentives linked to plate appearances, with $300,000 awarded at each of the 200, 300, 400, and 500 plate appearance thresholds.

Previously, the 30-year-old outfielder had signed a minor league deal with the Milwaukee Brewers last month but was released from their roster on Saturday.
The Detroit Tigers were in urgent need of outfielders, especially with Parker Meadows and Matt Vierling both out due to injuries. The situation became more critical on Monday after Scott Harris, the president of baseball operations, revealed that infielder Wenceel Pérez is suffering from lower back inflammation that is expected to sideline him for about a month.

The Tigers are set to play their season opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers this Thursday, and Margot’s addition aims to fill these gaps effectively.
Margot’s performance last year with the Minnesota Twins saw him hitting .238, with a .289 on-base percentage, four home runs, 31 RBIs, and five stolen bases across 129 games. Throughout his season with Minnesota, he started games across all outfield positions.

Margot first entered the MLB field with the San Diego Padres in 2016 and has since maintained a career .254 batting average with 56 home runs and 314 RBIs over 917 games. His career also includes four seasons spent with the Tampa Bay Rays.
A native of San Cristobal in the Dominican Republic, Margot originally entered the professional baseball scene in 2011 after being signed by the Boston Red Sox.
