DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — With an impressive performance in the first round of the CBI Tournament at the Ocean Center, Chase Walker propelled Illinois State to a 78-70 victory over Presbyterian on Sunday night, scoring 20 points.
Illinois State, now boasting a 20-14 record, moves forward to the semifinals scheduled for Tuesday. They await their opponent, the victor of the Monday quarterfinal clash between Jacksonville and Incarnate Word.
Walker not only showcased his scoring ability but also contributed significantly on the boards, pulling down nine rebounds. Teammate Ty Pence was highly efficient, scoring 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the field, and grabbing six rebounds. Dalton Banks added to the offensive efforts with 10 points.
Presbyterian’s charge was led by Kory Mincy, who tallied 21 points. Supporting the Blue Hose’s campaign, Kobe Stewart put up 15 points and collected eight rebounds, while Quadir Pettaway chipped in with 10 points.
Midway through the contest, Illinois State held a narrow 33-30 advantage going into halftime.
