Charlotte, North Carolina — Charlotte FC delivered a commanding 4-1 win against the San Jose Earthquakes at Bank of America Stadium on Saturday night. Pep Biel was instrumental in this victory, scoring a goal and assisting twice.
Charlotte FC took an early lead in the 11th minute with Biel’s solitary effort finding the net. This marked his second goal of the current season, adding to his tally from last year when he scored twice across eight starts and nine appearances.
The advantage doubled in the 36th minute when Ashley Westwood found the net, thanks to a critical assist from 20-year-old rookie forward Idan Toklomati. This was Westwood’s first goal of the season and his sixth in three league seasons. For Toklomati, who made his debut in the starting lineup during his fifth appearance, this marked his first career assist. Last season, he featured briefly, playing just 17 minutes across a single appearance.
By halftime, Charlotte had established a comfortable 3-0 lead. Biel again proved vital, setting up Brandt Bronico for a goal in the 40th minute. This goal marked Bronico’s first of the season and the sixth of his career.
Kerwin Vargas extended the lead to 4-0 in the 52nd minute. This goal was Vargas’ first of the season and his 11th in 80 career appearances. Biel’s contributions now tally up to four assists for the season, surpassing the total he achieved last season over eight starts and nine appearances.
In the 74th minute, Charlotte midfielder Andrew Privett was sent off with a red card for a foul on Preston Judd. This provided an opportunity for San Jose’s Cristian “Chicho” Arango to score a penalty, marking his third goal of the season since moving from Real Salt Lake.
Kristijan Kahlina was a reliable presence in goal for Charlotte, making six saves. Charlotte has proven formidable at home, remaining unbeaten in their last six home matches.
