NEW YORK – In an intense overtime battle, Nazem Kadri’s goal at 3:51 lifted the Calgary Flames to a 4-3 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday. This triumph marked Calgary’s third consecutive win, buoyed by standout performances from Matt Coronato, who netted two goals, and Jonathan Huberdeau, who contributed a goal alongside two assists. Goaltender Dan Vladar was instrumental, making 26 saves for the Flames.

The Islanders, who were riding high on a three-game winning streak, saw it come to an end but managed to extend their point streak to five games (3-0-2). Goals were scored by Bo Horvat, Marc Gatcomb, and Kyle MacLean, with Maxim Tsyplakov and Noah Dobson racking up two assists each. In goal, Marcus Hogberg recorded 31 saves. Despite the loss, Hogberg made a critical stop against Morgan Frost on a breakaway shortly before Kadri’s decisive goal.

Jonathan Huberdeau, playing his 900th NHL game, tied the score with only 2:22 left — just moments after MacLean propelled the Islanders ahead 3-2 late in the third period. Vladar’s acrobatic glove save against Ryan Pulock in the closing seconds secured the game for overtime.

For the Flames, MacKenzie Weegar missed the game due to a lower-body injury. Known for his exceptional defensive performance, Weegar averages 23:53 of ice time per game, with a tally of 41 points (seven goals, 34 assists) in his role with Calgary. On the Islanders’ side, Hogberg’s appearance marked his first start since March 9, filling in as goaltender Ilya Sorokin had been the starter for the preceding five games, with Semyon Varlamov sidelined since late November from a lower-body injury.

A key highlight was 22-year-old forward Matt Coronato, who scored twice, marking an impressive debut on Long Island as a professional. Both Dobson and Holmstrom continued their personal point streaks, each reaching a four-game streak—a career high for Holmstrom.

Looking ahead, the Flames are set to face Seattle on Tuesday, while the Islanders will host Columbus on Monday.
