MINNEAPOLIS – Wisconsin forward Casey O’Brien has been honored with the 2025 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, distinguishing her as the premier player in women’s Division I college hockey.
The announcement was made on Saturday during the NCAA Women’s Frozen Four event.
At 23 years old, O’Brien becomes the sixth athlete from Wisconsin to receive this prestigious accolade. She stands as the top scorer in the nation, amassing an impressive 88 points consisting of 26 goals and 62 assists over her initial 40 games of the current season.
Hailing from Milton, Massachusetts, O’Brien has been instrumental in propelling the Badgers to their third successive championship game, consistently facing Ohio State. The team boasts a remarkable record of 37-1-2 and is just a single victory away from clinching their third championship in five years.
The other contenders for this esteemed award were her teammates, Laila Edwards and Caroline Harvey. The winner is chosen by a committee of 13 individuals, which includes coaches, members of the media, and a representative from USA Hockey.
