CAIRO — A group of pro-democracy activists in Sudan reported on Saturday that at least 45 individuals have lost their lives following an incursion by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group into a town located in the western region of Darfur.
The Resistance Committees, which comprise a network of youth groups dedicated to monitoring the ongoing conflict in Sudan, indicated that the RSF launched attacks in the town of al-Maliha over the past two days.
According to a partial casualty list released by the group, the deceased include at least a dozen women.
The paramilitary group announced on Thursday that it had taken control of al-Maliha, a strategically significant desert town situated in North Darfur near the borders with Chad and Libya.
While Sudan’s military has recognized that there is ongoing combat around al-Maliha, it has not confirmed the loss of control over the town.
Al-Maliha is approximately 200 kilometers (125 miles) north of el-Fasher, a city that remains under the control of the Sudanese military, despite facing regular attacks by the besieging RSF.
