DUNEDIN, Fla. — Toronto Blue Jays center fielder Daulton Varsho will start the season on the injured list as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery. According to Blue Jays manager John Schneider, Varsho underwent surgery on his right rotator cuff in September and requires additional time to heal before returning to the field.
This spring, Varsho has been participating in games as a designated hitter, where he has managed a .276 batting average alongside four home run hits. Although his performance at bat has been promising, the team aims to eventually have him available for defensive duties in the outfield.
Schneider is optimistic about Varsho’s recovery and expects him to make his season debut sometime within the first month. Varsho, who earned his first Gold Glove award in 2024, is an important asset to the Blue Jays.
Varsho, aged 28 and entering his third season with the Blue Jays after playing three seasons with the Arizona team, had a batting average of .214 with 18 home runs and 58 RBIs over 136 games in the last season. The team looks forward to his full recovery, hoping he will soon rejoin them in full capacity.
