SARASOTA, Fla. — The Baltimore Orioles have welcomed back right-handed pitcher Kyle Gibson after he signed a $5.25 million, one-year contract. This agreement was reached just days before the commencement of the new season.

Gibson is anticipated to strengthen a pitching rotation that includes talented right-handers such as Zach Eflin, Charlie Morton, Dean Kremer, and Tomoyuki Sugano. Unfortunately, right-hander Grayson Rodriguez will miss the start of the season due to inflammation in his throwing elbow.

Gibson, at 37 years old, showcased his skills with the St. Louis Cardinals last year, achieving an 8-8 record and maintaining a 4.24 ERA over 30 starts. His contract with the Orioles includes potential performance bonuses totaling $1,525,000. These bonuses are structured to award him $150,000 for every 14th, 16th, 18th, 20th, 22nd, and 24th start, alongside additional bonuses of $125,000 for reaching 110, 120, 130, 140, and 150 innings pitched.

Previously, Gibson had a successful stint with the Orioles in 2023 where he recorded a 15-9 record with a 4.73 ERA across 33 starts, under a $10 million one-year deal. Subsequently, he joined the Cardinals on a contract worth $12 million annually. However, the Cardinals opted for a $1 million buyout over a $12 million option for 2025.

Throughout his 12-season career, Gibson has accumulated a 112-108 record with a 4.52 ERA in 324 starts and six relief appearances, representing teams including Minnesota, Texas, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and St. Louis.

The Orioles’ pitching lineup recently experienced a significant shift with the departure of ace Corbin Burnes, who signed a $210 million, six-year contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
